CNN —Look at almost any modern high-horsepower supercar and you will see the work of auto designer Marcello Gandini. Sharp lines, a low stance, doors that swing up; all were influenced by Gandini’s seminal work, the Lamborghini Countach. Gandini designed both of those cars and, if he had done nothing else, he would still be remembered. But in addition to his work for Lamborghini, Gandini produced cars for automakers including BMW, Fiat and Ferrari. The Lamborghini LP500, a first prototype for the Countach sports car, designed by by Marcello Gandini of Gruppo Bertone, circa 1972.

☆ Lancia to reveal new Ypsilon small car in February in European comeback plan

The new Ypsilon will initially be presented as a fully-electric, limited edition version of 1,906 units, Lancia said in a newsletter. The car will go on sale in Italy before summer next year and will also be available in a mild-hybrid version. The new Ypsilon will be built in Zaragoza, Spain, on the same platform as several other Stellantis models, including the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600, Peugeot's 208 and 2008 and Opel's Mokka and Corsa. ☆ Stellantis to build new Jeep Compass as fifth model in Melfi

MILAN, July 13 (Reuters) - Stellantis will build the new Jeep Compass, one of the carmaker's bestsellers in Europe, as the fifth model for its Melfi plant in southern Italy, two sources close to the matter told Reuters on Thursday. The new model will be a development from the Compass SUV the Franco-Italian group currently produces in Melfi, one of its main assembly sites in the country. The new Jeep Compass will join four other new models the carmaker had promised for Melfi but which it has not yet officially announced. The production of models in Melfi underpinned by the new Stellantis platform for medium-sized cars is expected to start during 2024. Stellantis currently also builds Jeep's Renegade and Fiat's 500X models in Melfi.
